We are in uncharted territory these days. Many of you came into the world in 2001, a time when we as a nation were confronted with the attacks of Sept. 11th. Once again, your life is being impacted by a large global event. While you may have been just a baby in 2001 and only know of it's impact through stories you are fully experiencing this event. The global pandemic of the coronavirus has you distance learning and confined largely to your home. You are not alone. Across the globe people are confined to their homes, in some cases these are very small apartments in places like Italy. I say that not to negate the impact on you, high school seniors, but rather to remind you that YOU ARE NOT ALONE. I feel your pain as you think about time your loosing academically, and especially socially during your last few months of school. As you all know, I have a SENIOR of my own. While she is a college senior, her disappointment is equal to yours. She never expected her college career to end as it most likely will. Know that I feel for each and every one of you, and think about this often. In thinking about it, I remembered a story that Mr. Rodgers would tell. If you don't know who Mr. Rodgers is, it doesn't matter. See the picture and quote below. I think in times like these his and his mothers words are so important to remember. Look For The Helpers. And a helper can come in many different forms. When I see the reports on television of Italians singing to each other from their balcony's I think, there are the helpers. These are people trapped in their tiny Italian apartments just trying to spread cheer and encouragement to their neighbors (most of whom they've probably never met) and themselves. Your job this week is to Look for the Helpers. You don't need to turn anything in, just be mindful of people doing what little they can to get through this. If you'd like, email me with a link and I'd love to share it right here. Not required though.
Additionally, please encourage your head of household to fill out the United States 2020 Census. The results of the census are used to:
*Direct billions of dollars in federal funds to local communities for schools, roads, and other public services.
*Help your community to meet transportation and emergency readiness needs.
*Determine the number of seats each state has in the U.S House of Representatives and your political representation at all levels of government.
This information is due by April 1st, 2020 at my2020census.gov.

Ok ladies, your final assignment before we go on our Spring Break hiatus is to tell me how the Coronavirus is affecting you. You can to this in the form of an essay or a well done mini - poster. Up to you, you know we are flexible about these types of things in this class. Things you might address in this assignment are: how you're feeling about it, how it's personally impacting you, what you are witnessing around you (good and/or bad), what you're doing to remain positive, how you're adapting to remote learning, etc. The sky is the limit on this assignment. While the parameters of the assignment are flexible, the due date is not! All assignments are due by the end of the day Friday, April 3rd, 2020.
